Skeletonized Chronographs with New Visuals
This year, Chronoswiss will provide variations to its well-loved time pieces: the skeletonized automatic Opus Chronograph and Grand Opus Chronograph, both of which are now available in black. In order to create and cross over to the “dark side” with these timepieces, Chronoswiss employed an innovative coating that goes by the name Dianoir. The name is based on pure carbon and belongs to the family of diamond-like carbon, predominately known in the industry as DLC.
Different from many commercially available coatings, the DLC coating Chronoswiss uses is the result of an original, patented process. Using a pulsating ray of light, a plasma is created in a vacuum environment that is aimed at the substrate to be coated. Thus, a much higher amount of diamond is created that produces more than double the hardness of the coating.
The robust and high-quality of the ultra-hard coating also provides exceptional aesthetic qualities. The transparency of the skeletonized models in their new “light” seems almost like black magic, allowing for a totally new perspective into the inside of the solid 39-part black case for the observer.
The model still maintains the classic Chronoswiss characteristics with a fluted screw-down bezel, screw-down polished case back in addition to a solid metal oignon-style crown and screw-in lugs with patented Autobloc System. The hands are painted bright red and/or luminous white.
This innovative coating of diamond-like carbon lends the Grand Opus Chronograph and Opus Chronograph models a fully new look—the “dark side” of the fascination of mechanics.
