Se ne è andato un grande..un grandissimo..grazie a lui e ad al suo coassiale l'orologeria ha intrapreso una nuova epoca..tutti gli scappamenti che stanno nascendo e che sono nati come innovativi..beh devono a lui e alla sua costanza..la buona riuscita..ed anche al silicio..
Il suo libro è mitico..bello davvero..adesso c'è la seconda edizione con la copertina bianca....ma non so se ci sono differenze.
Quest'anno se ne sono andati in molti..molti grandi..è stato un anno particolarmente triste...onore al grande G. Daniels

Oggi è passata una settimana da quando è mancato George Daniels. Per chi non lo conosceva qualche info da chi lo conosceva, F. P. Journe.

" Homage to George Daniels

Dearest George,

It is with the greatest sadness that I am paying a heartfelt homage to you and thank you for having been my source of inspiration, as you have been for so many around the world in the watch industry, the profound insight and constant support you gave me through my watch making path.

Without you, I would most certainly never have started to make my first watch: You are definitely the foremost watchmakers of this 20th Century. It was in 1969, when the mechanical watch industry was dethroned by the arrival of quartz, that you started making your first watch. You were the pioneer; the first watchmaker who showed us the path to horology of Art, a non-utilitarian horology. The rest proved you were right, Swiss horology was back from the ashes in constructing watches of Art and ceremonial timepieces.

You have opened the main door of contemporary horology and showed us the path back to authentic watchmaking with innovation sense, in the respect of the grand horological tradition of our great watch masters. You opened the main door; I could only follow in opening others. But the most difficult to open was definitely the first one.

George I am proud to be your friend and I wish to thank you immensely for all the incentive and inspiration you brought me, and I could only hope there would be more watchmakers like you, us, making real horology. When I saw the watch you had made for Sam, without knowing it, the path of my life was engraved in me and I decided to make my first watch in 1977. Thanks to your works The Art of Breguet, Watchmaking, and many others, I have patiently learned how to make a watch on my workbench, you know the rest . . .

I was lucky to meet you at numerous occasions throughout my career, at first during horology reunions at the London Academy, during auctions and also in Basel. It has always been a great honour when you came to visit the Manufacture I have built in the centre of Geneva.
