A collector I know sold every watch he owned and now owns a substantial collection of only one brand - Campanola from Citizen.
Essentially Campanola is Citizen's Toyota Lexus - luxury watchmaking with the distinctive Japanese tradition towards perfection. A friend of mine once quipped - the Americans invent, the Japanese perfect. (Think TV, VCR, Radio, Casette Player, CD, DVD etc). So, it would seem that Campanola is Japans best-kept watchmaking secret. These watches are technically outstanding, masterfully decorated and versus their European counterparts (Germanic/Swiss/Italian), they are more attractively priced. Consider Campanola as the Nissan GTR to the Italian Ferrari - a quarter the price, better technology, just as fast and powerful! (I'm certainly going to get flack for this - but I could always run away to Japan.)
Enough about this fantastic brand! They have just released a new Cosmosign. Priced at approximately 241,500 yen (About $2,500), this is a veritable bargain. Why? For one thing, it displays the real time skychart of 1027 stars and 166 galaxy clusters all in the correct position and orientation. Compare this to the $240,000 recently released Celestial two-tone Platinum and Rose Gold from Patek Philippe. Sure, the Patek is purely Mechanical, but the workmanship of the Campanola is pure magic and 1/100th the price! Functions include: Display age and quick reference constellation position, 35 degree latitude sky view constellations, and sun position.
