Messidor
As a lover of all things Breguet, I am pleased to announce the new arrival of the Breguet Messidor in Rose Gold. This is one of the finest looking skeleton watches ever made. The tourbillon cage is gorgeous, and perhaps I should have photographed the watch with the tourbillon not moving, since on the photos it looks blurry.
Because we're talking about a watch at the highest level of technical artistry, I am going to be more particular in my review than normal. The movement is beautifully laid out, but the finishing comes in second to my various Langes and Jaegers. I would have expected more from Breguet. Rounded parts aren't perfectly rounded and chamfering, although excellent, is not as exquisite as with my Langes. Reflected light should be perfectly uniform, but the minor chamfering imperfections are easily spotted with a loupe (something I cannot fault in the Langes, even with a loupe).
The skeletonization is magnificent. Harmonious, well thought-out and shaped beautifully.
Caseband fluting, the Breguet hallmark, is, as usual, flawless.
Dial-side up has a lovely combination of polished and satin finishing. Overall finish, again, is excellent but not exquisite.
The subsdiary seconds are exhibited via the tourbillon cage. The third arm becomes the seconds hand. Hour and minute hands in blued-steel appear in the upper hemisphere and domed markers applied at the 8 through 4 positions enhance legibility without interfering with the skeletonized design.
It's a beautiful watch. Harmonious in all respects and brilliantly executed. My only gripe is that at this level of the game, finishing should be second-to-none.
